A new campaign has launched this month which aims to challenge the stereotypes associated with lone parents. The campaign is being spearheaded by Gingerbread England with support from many large organisations including Fife Gingerbread.

Lone parents are regularly stigmatised and portrayed as 'scroungers', 'bad mothers' and have to bear the responsibility of broken Britain. The facts show this to be completely untrue yet attitudes towards lone parent families haven't changed in nearly 100 years.

Over 50 influential politicians including Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg have already signed their names to the pledge to tackle prejudice against lone parents.

If you would like to sign the pledge, click here and fill in your details.

"The single parents I know are single parents for a wide variety of reasons. Their personal circumstances and family backgrounds are very different. But they all have one thing in common; they're doing their best to bring up their children in a loving, supportive home. We should be supporting single parents in their efforts to do this, not stigmatising them."
- Kerry McCarthy, MP
