Fife Gingerbread's AGM & Annual Event took place last week at Carnegie Conference Centre in Dunfermline. The theme for the event was Celebrating Relationships and the impact they have on all our lives.
Over 110 delegates attended the event, including politicians, local businesses, representatives from partner organisations, sector professionals, volunteers, and of course parents.
It was a very special occasion, as both our CEO Rhona Cunningham and one of our long-standing Board members Carol Humbert were both retiring. Both Carol and Rhona had the vision and the dedication to make Fife Gingerbread what it is today- a lifeline for families and vital part of the Third Sector in the region.
The Provost of Fife, Jim Leishman spoke of the legacy and impact of Fife Gingerbread, and how important building positive relationships can be. Our guest speaker, Mike Stevenson, gave a unique insight into how communication and language can affect how we see and treat each other.
Attendees attended two workshops during the event. At our first workshop, delegates played through a Fife Gingerbread created game called 'Wave of Life'. Players had the opportunity to see how we work with families in real life and the setbacks and victories on the way. The My Island workshop featured young parents who are part of Fife Teen Parent Project. They provided real experiences of being a young parent in Fife and explored the challenges they have faced and the successes they have had individually and as a group.
The AGM & Annual Event always recognises great work through the awards portion. This is an opportunity for workers to highlight fantastic volunteers and amazing parents. We were delighted to have sponsors for the awards this year from local businesses that are partnering with us to deliver our services and present our awards. This years winners were:
Lone Parent of the Year: Deborah Witton (Sponsored by Bridge Systems Ltd)
Young Parent of the Year: Nicole Currie (Sponsored by Greens of Markinch)
Volunteer Achievement: Stacy Brown (Sponsored by Upstream IT)
Star of the Year: Ashley Chalmers (Sponsored by HR Booth)
And as a token of our appreciation for her work, we introduced the Carol Humber Special Recognition Award (Sponsored by John Young Signs Ltd) to Levenmouth Locality Support Group.
A special and emotional day, and a AGM that everyone who attended will not forget.
