Volunteering: Updates from Fife Gingerbread
Hi,
We are Mel and Megan, the Volunteer Co-ordinators at Fife Gingerbread. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to streamline and re-envision the volunteering journey at Fife Gingerbread.
Late 2024 saw us getting to grips with each other’s working styles, strengths, and areas of interest in the volunteering project. We’ve learned that we can be the Yin to each other’s Yang, and working together has been a smooth transition internally. We have been working hard on streamlining our paperwork and admin systems as well as referrals for support staff, so purposes and expectations are clearer than ever before; working towards those better todays for brighter tomorrows.
We have been working hard to improve our communication with volunteers around opportunities, information, and events. We asked volunteers to be involved in development sessions, to have their voices heard, so that change becomes volunteer led. Our volunteers are at the heart of what we do, and we are so proud of what they achieve and support with. The new volunteer strategy has been developed by volunteers, for volunteers.
This has led us to develop a Volunteer Bulletin, which will include opportunities for training, volunteering, and employment, as well as some facts and figures about what hours have been donated for the month. We will be running a new cohort of training in September (ish), but are always keen to hear from new volunteers who are looking to join us on this journey. 😊
In April, we held our first ever Volunteer Conference, which went down a storm; we had the chance to celebrate the incredible work our volunteers do as well as launch our brand new Volunteer Strategy! We had a great mix of volunteers, staff, and partner organisations who came along to hear what we’ve been up to and what we plan to do next. We’re looking forward to more partnership working with and for our volunteers and celebrating volunteers in Volunteer Week, which is in June (2nd – 8th). We are so excited for what the next 12 months are going to bring and to showcase it all next year!
Watch this space!
