At Fife Gingerbread, we are passionate about supporting families and making lasting change.
In 2024 we embarked on a stargazing journey of reflection and growth, engaging with our board, staff, volunteers, and parents to consider where we are now and where we want to be. This process has helped us define our priorities for the near future and beyond.
Our Strategy reinforces our commitment to deliver high quality family supports services for lone parents and families in need and tackling child poverty is at the heart of our approach.
We will support families through our projects and provide short term solutions to families experiencing crisis, and provide holistic whole family support to grow the resilience of families., Additionally, we will embed an upstream mindset to develop and test longer term strategies to tackle systemic challenges that trap families in poverty.
Our Manifesto for Change will evolve as we identify key systemic challenges affecting families. We seek opportunities to influence both policy & practice through innovation, advocacy and influencing activity. Working with both local and national partners to inspire change and amplify the voice of families.
Multi-Year Funding: Stable, long-term funding is critical to providing family support services that are relational and trauma informed.
Lone Parent Positive Workplaces: We will advocate to make changes in the workplaces to enable more lone parents to access good well-paid employment, and progress in their careers. Helping businesses connect with an amazing pool of untapped talent!
Transforming Child Maintenance: Children and young people have a right to fair financial support from both parents, wherever possible. We will continue to work in partnership to advocate for a while family approach to Child Maintenance.
Housing, Homes & Family Support: Every child deserves a safe, warm home to enable them to flourish. We are advocating for solutions to Scotland’s housing crisis to ensure that these very basic rights are met.
Cost of the School Day: Poverty-proofing schools will remove barriers to Education for our most at risk children and young people, and will positively impact on their engagement in School. We must tackle stigma to make this possible!
To bring this vision to life, we are committed to engaging with decision-makers, raising awareness and using our collective voice to inspire change. We will embed an upstream mindset in our work, and empower our team to be change-makers.

Our stargazing journey doesn’t end here, we are developing implementation plans to ensure that we continue to move forwards. We would like to extend our thanks to the Rocco Charitable Trust and Robertson Trust for their support in enabling our capacity as an organisation to grow our impact.
We will share our journey with you so that we can celebrate achievements, learn from challenges and continue to evolve. This is not a Strategy that will gather ‘virtual dust’ on our website, and we hope that you will join us on our journey.
