Give the Gift of Play: Fife Gingerbread’s Day2Play Appeal 2025

Every child deserves to play. Every child deserves joy.

Yet 1 in 4 children in Fife are growing up in poverty, missing out on the simple joys of childhood—carefree play, fun days out, and treasured memories. Poverty isn’t distant; it’s in every school, playground, and community.

That’s why we’re launching our annual Day2Play Appeal, raising vital funds to help families share special moments together.

For those struggling with the cost of living, covering essentials like food, rent, and heating leaves nothing for days out. Many children spend holidays at home, unable to enjoy the experiences their peers take for granted. A simple trip to the beach, a zoo visit, or a train ride can boost confidence, build friendships, and create lasting memories.

Why Play Matters

Play is more than fun—it builds resilience, confidence, and emotional wellbeing, especially for children facing poverty or family challenges.

Laura Millar, Fife Gingerbread, shares:

"This appeal is about giving children growing up in poverty the chance to make happy memories, feel valued, and have fun. Whether it’s an ice cream at Lochore Meadows, a walk through Cambo Estate, or a day at the beach, these moments matter. The cost-of-living crisis hits the poorest hardest, but every penny raised will help families in Fife make memories."

Connor, 8, from Lochgelly, shares his Day2Play experience:

"We went to the Deer Farm and saw all the animals! I made new friends, and my Mum was happy with her friends from Gingerbread. It was great fun. I told my teacher at school, and she said it sounded amazing—it was our holiday."
